Schools may have been on spring break this past week, but our teaching artists and students were hard at work on their creative skills! Assistant Museum Educator Jessica Diaz taught our “Clay Characters” class which saw the kids creating their own stop motion animated shorts. Teaching artist Lisa Mahony led a group of excited, young painters, and teaching artist Stefanie Ortiz-Malave traveled off site to teach Boys & Girls Club members how to make their own self-portraits.

Face of California
Premiere Party: Saturday, May 18, 2019: 4pm to 6pm
You’re invited to the premiere of the Santa Paula Art Museum’s newest group exhibition entitled Face of California on Saturday, May 18, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The exhibit will feature works of art by 33 artists that capture the “face” of California, depicted in mediums as diverse as the state they seek to represent. Admission to the premiere party is $10.00 for members of the Museum and $15.00 for non-members. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Face of California will be on view through September 15, 2019.

In addition to Face of California, you’ll see a new exhibit of works by the Museum’s many amazing teaching artists – those individuals who share their creative talents and knowledge with students during classes at the Cole Creativity Center.

Summer Art Classes for Kids
Week-long sessions to be offered in June and July
Kids can get creative this summer with week-long art classes at the Santa Paula Art Museum! Classes will include Geo-Me-Tree (Ages 3-5), Flashback Photography (Ages 10-13), iPad Painting (Ages 6-9), Animation Creations (Ages 8-12), Super-Power Creative Journal (Ages 8-12), and Recycled Rainbow (Ages 6-8). All supplies will be provided in every class. Preregistration is required.
Free Family Day
Sun., May 5, 2019: 12pm to 3pm
Join us for Free Family Day on the first Sunday of every month from 12pm to 3pm. On Sunday, May 5, “Queen of Kids Art” Judee Hauer will share her fun and unique folk-art doll project. Bring personalities to life as you explore color, fabrics, textures, and your own creative ideas! Admission is free.
Kids’ Art Fest
Sun., June 2, 2019: 11am to 3pm
Our outdoor Kids’ Art Fest on Sunday, June 2 will feature fun and interactive art-making activities, food trucks from Pizza Man Dan’s and Kona Shaved Ice, face painting, balloon artists, live music, family photo ops, and more. Admission to the event is free for everyone.

Buttonhole Bookmaking (Ages 16+)
Saturday, May 11, 2019: 12pm to 4pm
Join Ojai paper specialist Gail Hercher and indulge in the joy of bookmaking! This class will focus on the “buttonhole binding” technique, with endless creative potential for personalized details and creative variations. Each student will leave with at least one unique, buttonhole-bound book. All skill levels are welcome, and all supplies will be provided. Preregistration is required. The cost of this class is $40.00 per person.
The Art of Travel (Ages 16+)

Family Art Project – Whimsical Self-Portraits (Ages 10+)
Sun., June 9, 2019: 1pm to 4pm
Working together with “Queen of Kids Art” Judee Hauer as your guide, families will learn techniques for painting portraits, then add collage to finish with a colorful flourish. Preregistration is required. The cost of this class is $12.00 per person.
Watercolor Intensive

Learn tips and tricks to help you feel comfortable in the medium. Find your flow, embrace your inner artist, and dive into watercolors! All skill levels are welcome. Preregistration is required. The cost of this three-part class is $120.00 per person.

The Museum’s gift shop offers a wide variety of gifts including cards, jewelry, accessories, books, home goods, original art, and more. The shop is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
