Last Thursday, Chris Hillman was joined at the Museum by longtime collaborator and Desert Rose Band bandmate Herb Pederson after Chris discussed his falling in love with music and the mandolin at a young age, the formation of the Byrds and how Miles Davis helped propel them into the music scene, and many other stories spanning his career.
The Museum of Ventura County is hosting two Free First Sunday events this coming Sunday, February 3rd! Join us at the Museum on 100 E. Main St. in Ventura as Ivor Davis reads his new children’s book, “Ladies and Gentleman… The Penguins!” and Alan Shapiro performs music. You can also join us at the Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula for an interactive Quilting Demo with the Ventura Modern Quilt Guild from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. We hope to see you at the Museum soon!

Free First Sunday at the Ventura Museum: Ivor Davis
Feb. 3, 2019 @ 12 p.m. Author Ivor Davis will read his new children’s book, “Ladies and Gentlemen… The Penguins!”, and Alan Shapiro will perform music, including a new song written for the book. Free admission all day!
Feb. 3, 2019 @ 1 p.m. The Ventura Modern Quilt Guild will be offering quilting demonstrations from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ag Museum. Museum admission is free all day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Free First Sunday!
Jan. 31, 2019 @ 7:30 p.m. Ventura Film Society presents Playtime, Jacques Tati’s gloriously choreographed, nearly wordless comedies about confusion in an age of high technology reached their apotheosis with PlayTime. Tickets are $8.
Feb. 9, 2019 @ 6 p.m. BAA’s 33rd Annual Open Competition will be on display Feb. 9-March 2, 2019 in the Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Pavilion at the Museum. Join us for the Opening Reception and Award Ceremony on Feb. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Feb. 17, 2019 @ 3 p.m. Focus On The Masters is proud to kick off its 25th Anniversary in partnership with the Museum of Ventura County. The first Artist Spotlight interview will feature Rafael Perea de la Cabada. RSVP today!
Feb. 23, 2019 @ 7 p.m. This Block Party will be a festive blend of live performances, food trucks, no-host bar and a post-show dance party DJ’d by local musician Mikael Jorgensen, keyboardist of the legendary band Wilco! Plus, it’s FREE!
Feb. 24, 2019 @ 3 p.m. The Museum of Ventura County is honored to host a screening of “From the Ashes Up”, a documentary on the Thomas Fire created by two local teens. The screening is free to attend and will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
Chris Hillman: Time Between opened on January 11, 2019 to ecstatic visitors who poured into the Museum and were treated to a visit by Chris Hillman himself. Take a sneak peek into the exhibit, and be sure to visit soon!
Wrapped With Care, an exhibit of quilts from the Thomas Fire Quilt Relief Project, along with cards and messages from both quilters from across the country and recipients of the quilts, has been extended to March 10, 2019!

The Museum of Ventura County is privileged to present the new exhibit Chris Hillman: Time Between featuring the storied rise of country rock pioneer Chris Hillman and his memorabilia.
The Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula is hosting Wrapped With Care, an exhibit of quilts from the Thomas Fire Quilt Relief Project. Wrapped With Care has been extended to March 10, 2019!
EXTENDED TO FEB. 3, 2019! Each wave of immigration brings with it recipes passed down through generations, methods of preparation and styles of presentation that add a rich ethnic diversity to Ventura County’s local food traditions.
Not seen by the public in nearly 40 years, The Night of the Nosferatu exhibit features figures originally created for a staged performance by the artist in 1979.
Opazo draws inspiration from her native Chile and incorporates elements from her current coastal home of Ventura to create powerful outdoor installations.
The Journal of Ventura County’s newest edition, “The Remarkable Life of Lorenzo Dow Chillson”, is now available for sale in the Museum’s store. The Journal was made possible by a generous donation from Charles J. Rennie, III of Rancho Palos Verdes.
