Nov. 13 — Assemblymember Irwin to host Women’s Self-Defense Workshop

Aimed at empowering women and helping them to better protect themselves

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin is hosting “Empower + Protect: A Self-Defense Workshop for Women,” an educational event aimed at guiding women through self- defense instruction. The workshop is being held at Sports Academy HQ at 1011 Rancho Conejo Boulevard in Newbury Park on Tuesday, November 13 from 6-8pm.

“From preparing participants to defend themselves, to encouraging emotional and mental confidence, these women will learn how to best protect themselves with perspectives from local law enforcement and trained instructors,” said Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin. “We are pleased to have Sports Academy and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office partner with us on this event.”

The event is FREE and open to public; it will include an informational presentation from incoming Undersheriff, Monica McGrath, followed by a full self-defense lesson from Sports Academy’s highly qualified instructors.
