Museum of Ventura County update for Oct. 10 — Ghostwalk last three weekends of October

On the last 3 weekends of October, the historyof Santa Paula and the Santa Clara River Valley comes alive at the Santa Paula Ghostwalk, now in its 24th year. Presented by the Agriculture Museum, the Ghostwalk is a walking theater experience featuring stories of long ago performed by Santa Paula Theatre Group actors in historical costume at historical locations along a tour group path. Along the route patrons meet colorful ghosts who share their stories “real or imagined.”
First tour is at 6 p.m. with tours following every 20 minutes. Last tour is at 9 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for kids under 12. This weekend only–all tickets $10.00. Tickets are available for purchase beginning Oct. 1 at www.ghostwalk.com. The tour starts at the Ag Museum located at 926 Railroad Avenue, Santa Paula.
Grab lunch and head over to the Museum, every Thursday between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., for music and free entry to the galleries. Enjoy your lunch break in one of our colorful patio chairs while you listen to local musicians, then take a stroll through the museum’s rotating exhibits.

On Sunday, October 14th, the Museum of Ventura County and the Ventura Film Society will co-present the Museum Matinee Series, a monthly film experience that will kick-off with a series of three films related to the Museum’s current exhibit, At Table: The Business of Food and Community. The matinee will be held at the Museum’s Smith Pavilion, 100 E. Main Street, Ventura, with tickets available at $5 for members (both Museum members and Film Society members) and $10 for non-members. A concession stand will offer boxed candy, bagged popcorn, soft drinks, beer and wine for purchase.
Join local artist-in-residence, Ryan Carr, on October 16 at 6 p.m. at Leashless Brewery, where you will draw live, clothed models. Bring your drawing pads, charcoal, pencils, pastels, whatever your favorite medium! Grab a friend and get creative at Leashless Brewery. Some instruction provided at the Museum session. Ventura Coast Brewery is located at 585 Thompson Blvd, Downtown Ventura. All skill levels welcome. The event is free and open to the public.
In honor of National AIDS Awareness month, the Museum of Ventura Countywill host a reception, 6:30 p.m.,October 19, to benefit the Museum and the Diversity Collective of Ventura County’s HIV/AIDS prevention and education program. The reception will showcase “Bringing the Boys Home,” four blocks of quilt panels from the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, handsewn by members of NAMES Project Ventura County in the 1990s, brought back by the Quilt Project Gold Coast, Ventura County’s newest AIDS nonprofit. Admission is free for $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers.
The Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum will host René Corado, Saturday October 20, 1 pm – 2:30 pm as he reflects on his journey from Guatemala shoeshine boy to collections manager of the Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology. Emphasizing his research projects collecting thousands of eggs and nestsin the Amazon jungle of Ecuador and in Costa Rica, Corado will share his encyclopedic knowledge of eggs from around the world: from bean-size hummingbird eggs and strangely conical murre eggs to the few surviving gargantuan elephant bird eggs. Admission is free for members and $5 for nonmembers. The Ag Museum located at 926 Railroad Avenue, Santa Paula.
