SANTA BARBARA — Friendship Center is pleased to welcome Hank Postma, Kathy Marden, and Sue Adams to its Board of Directors. ”I am incredibly impressed with the skills and strengths of our Board,” said Executive Director, Heidi Holly. “It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome one new and two returning Board members. As a team, we will continue to make progress and impact on many levels in support of our mission to serve older adults and their caregivers.”
Hank Postma joins Friendship Center’s Board of Directors this year. Vice President and Senior Asset Manager at MUFG Union Bank, Hank graduated from Westmont College with a BA in Religious Studies. His career has spanned from international sales to real estate, and he currently manages all real estate assets in the Central Coast Region for the Private Bank at MUFG Union Bank. His passion is helping others whether where they work, live, or play. Hank lives in Carpinteria with his wife and two young daughters.
Sue Adams returns to Friendship Center’s Board of Directors after serving from 2011 to 2017, holding the offices of Vice President, Member-at-Large, and Chief Financial Officer, and Chair of the Event Committee. Sue has energetically contributed to various local causes for over 50 years. She attended UC Santa Barbara and in 1960, married UCSB’s track and field coach, Sam Adams. She later in life became acquainted with Friendship Center when Sam utilized their services as a member. Sue has received the Santa Barbara News-Press Lifetime
Achievement Award and the Santa Barbara Woman of the Year award. In addition to Friendship Center, she currently serves on the boards of many organizations devoted to social services, historic preservation, and the arts, including Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, Pearl Chase Society, the Community Arts Music Association, St. Francis Foundation, Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens, and Alzheimer’s Women’s Initiative.
Kathy Marden, MFT returns to Friendship Center’s Board of Directors after serving from 2011 to 2017, holding the offices of Vice President and President, and Co-Chair of the Event Committee. Kathy is a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in working with those in chronic pain and with chronic illness. She has a BA from San Jose State University, an MS from UC Davis in Human Development, and an MA from UC Santa Barbara in Counseling Psychology. She worked for many years at the Rehabilitation Institute of Santa Barbara and now is in private practice. Kathy has served on the Boards of the Unitarian
Society Santa Barbara and Planned Parenthood and has done volunteer work with Carpinteria Girls Inc. and the Center for Successful Aging. She also performs in local community theater.
