Newly crowned WBA lightweight boxing champ Brandon Rios meet with youth from the Oxnard Boys and Girls club on March 30.
Rios shared his life story with the youth including his troubled times while living in Garden City, Kansas, Manuel Herrera of Team Garcia reported in a media release.
Rios said although life may be rough at times you must always do your best and if you truly want to change your life you can. He used himself as an example when he told them he went from being a troubled kid to becoming a world champion.
Now he’s married with children and accepts the responsibilities that come with being a parent and a world champion. Rios held a question and answer session followed by free autograph pictures for all the youth. When asked how he felt about meeting the youth Rios said “I was so nervous, even more nervous than when I fought for the title”.
Rios trains out of the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard.
