Join fellow art and book lovers at our next CAM Book Club discussion. Book selections focus on making connections with art and history inspired by current exhibitions and the museum’s permanent collection. Book discussions held the third Thursday of the month.

Black & White & In Between: Contemporary Art from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation
This exhibition features works by artists who have explored the formal, conceptual, technical, and material possibilities of limiting their palettes to black-and-white and shades “in between.”

California Artists from the Mullin Automotive Museum Collection

Carnegie Art Museum is pleased to spotlight the California artists included in the remarkable collections of the Mullin Automotive Museum. Art from the Mullin Automotive Museum featured in this exhibit at Carnegie Art Museum includes works by:  Ben Abril, Charles Arnoldi, Sigrid Burton, Keith Collins, Bruce Cohen, Larry Cohen, Laddie John Dill, Michael Furman, Hank Pitcher, Art Reid, and Jack Schultz. The Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard is noted for its exquisite collection of classic French touring automobiles and grand prix race cars.  It includes stunning displays of period furniture, paintings and ceramics that pay tribute to the Art Deco era of pre-war Europe.

VANESSA WALLACE – GONZALES
Vanessa Wallace-Gonzales uses elements of mythology to explore her identity and personal experiences. She began this exploration during her attendance at the Maryland Institute College of Art and carried it on in exhibitions in Ventura and Los Angeles, California, New York City, Baltimore, Maryland, and Florence, Italy. Vanessa Wallace-Gonzales is attracted to mythology because it rides the line of reality and fantasy to tell the story of a people. During her CAM Studioship she intends to build an environment that the audience can step into and feel transported to this other mythical realm where other beings once existed.  The artist wishes to create for viewer a sensation of discovering relics and dissolve the line between reality and fantasy.
