Almost a year ago we invited Ventura County to unite and learn about the harmful effects of implicit bias in our community’s schools. We brought together community activists, nonprofit leaders, teachers and administrators to confront their assumptions on bias and explore solutions.
That day we issued a challenge: if a member of the community had a plan address this problem, we would fund it.
In June, we announced the recipients of $25,000 in grants to fight biases of all kinds in our schools. We have monitored their projects and we are incredibly excited about the work being done.
We also began a partnership with the Ventura County Office of Education to begin educating and training educators to address their own implicit biases.
From the grassroots to decision makers – we endeavored to focus and empower an entire community. It would have been impossible without the support of our donors.
Today, in honor of that work, and what we will accomplish in 2018 – make a pledge to support the Social Justice Fund.
The gift you give today allows us to continue our work building a more just community for all.Sincerely,
Michael Teasdale and Betty Stapleford,
Co-chairs, Social Justice Fund for Ventura County
