Oct. 7 — Hands-on fun: KidSTREAM and Studio Channel Islands sponsor Global Cardboard Challenge

OXNARD — KidSTREAM, an emerging children’s museum committed to bringing hands-on STEM learning to the Ventura County community, and Studio Channel Islands Art Center invite kids of all ages to bring their imaginations and creativity to the Global Cardboard Challenge, 1–3 p.m., Oct. 7, at Studio Channel Islands, 2222 E. Ventura Blvd. During this family-friendly, free event, kids, along with their adults, will have fun building amazing works of art out of cardboard and recycled materials. Inspired by the overwhelming global success of the short film, ‘Caine’s Arcade’ (https://youtu.be/Ul9c-4dX4Hk), the Global Cardboard Challenge is designed to celebrate child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it.

“The Challenge gives children an opportunity to collaborate, learn and build the things they imagine through the simple process of creative play,” said Kristie Akl, KidSTREAM’s board president. “Giving kids the chance to explore their interests and passions through creative innovation helps teach critical thinking, resourcefulness, perseverance and teamwork– all valuable skills needed for success in today’s world.”

Leading up to the event, Studio Channel Islands invites area residents to drop off their recyclable cardboard and other recyclable items, which will be used during the Challenge. Drop-offs will be accepted at the studio from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., every Wednesday in September.

Each month, kidSTREAM and Studio Channel Islands present a free program as part of their community arts education outreach. For more information on future events and ongoing programs, visit www.studiochannelislands.org and www.kidstream.org.
