June 24 — Assemblymember Irwin and City of Thousand Oaks to host Inaugural ‘Safety Fair’

Family-friendly event to highlight first responders and emergency preparedness

SACRAMENTO –Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks) and the City of Thousand Oaks will be co-hosting a family oriented safety fair on Saturday, June 24th. This free event is open to the public and will have something for people of all ages.

This family-friendly event will feature emergency preparedness booths covering topics from earthquake and floods, to fire safety and bike helmets. Local law enforcement agencies and Ventura County Fire will be there to showcase their vehicles and K9s, answer questions, display their Search and Rescue equipment, facilitate Kid Print booklets and much more.

“Safety fairs like this are important for members of the local community to understand what resources they can utilize in case of any emergency,” said Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin. “From natural disasters to everyday safety issues it is crucial to be informed and to be prepared.”

The event promises to be fun-filled for children of all ages. They will have the chance to see and touch a full-size fire engine and police car, visit with the K9s, and take a selfie with McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog. Throughout the day, groups will teach families how to bike safely, hike safely, and how to properly use a fire extinguisher.

Presentations will include local Park Rangers who will be on hand to demonstrate ways to care for our environment and be safe on the trails; Animal Control giving tips on how to take care of your pets in an emergency; and the Sidewalk CPR program will be demonstrating simple emergency CPR techniques.

In addition, the Church of Latter Day Saints will be there accepting donations of new or gently-used shoes for their emergency and homelessness programs.

The Safety Fair will be held at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Park, located at 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 24th. Free parking is available in the structure.
