ORCUTT — The Central City Swing Band will perform their annual Fall Concert on Tuesday evening, November 1st, 2016 at 7:30PM. The concert will feature music arranged in a traditional or vintage swing style as well as arrangements in a modern jazz style. The actual playlist is not finalized until the evening of the concert, but you can be sure that the tunes and the styles will be a pleasure to hear performed. The concert is performed in a church with very comfortable seating, but no room for dancing.
The group, led by Mr. Bob Swayze, has been performing on the Central Coast for many, many years. The band features 18 musicians in a standard “big band” configuration: 5 saxophones, 5 trombones, 4 trumpets and piano, guitar, bass and drums. The program will also feature vocals by Mitch Latting, lead trumpet and flugelhorn player.
The band has had several personnel changes since the last performance. Chuck Osborne, the Director of the Hancock College Jazz Band, will be playing the lead or 1st tenor sax part. Beverly Young has replaced Bill Pierce on the 2nd tenor sax part. Ron Phillips has been added to the trombone section as a fifth member and he will have some solo work.
There is no advanced sale of tickets, and there is no admission charge for this event. There is a “donation basket” in the lobby and any donations are split equally with the Church, with the balance going into the band’s music acquisition fund.
The concert will take place at 7:30PM on Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 at the Unity Chapel of Light Church, 1165 Stubblefield Road, Orcutt, CA. For more information regarding the Central City Swing Band or this concert, please call (805) 929-0552 or visit the band’s website at:
