Intergenerational Art Program at Channel Islands Art Center Brings Children and Seniors Together on Oct. 9

studio-channel-islandsCAMARILLO — Art to Heart, an intergenerational art program which bring seniors and children together to learn from and inspire each other side-by-side, begins Wednesday, October 5th. Studio Channel Islands Art Center in Camarillo is now taking applications for their unique program, which addresses the disconnect between two significant population groups that often don’t have the opportunity to enjoy and share creative interaction with each other.

Open to seniors age 55 or older and children ages 7 to 12, the program’s projects may include sculpting; clay; silk, watercolor and pastel painting; charcoal drawing; fiber arts; and mixed media collage. The sessions are held on Wednesdays & Fridays at 3:30- 5:00 p.m. from October 5th ending October 28th. Program cost is $120, and space is limited. To register please call the Art Center at 805-383-1368, or visit the gallery at 2222 Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.

The Art to Heart Intergenerational Art Program is supported by the Meadowlarks Foundation. The art instructor is Lorraine Hall, Studio Channel Islands Art Center’s children’s art instructor. The program is in collaboration with Bernadette Limón, an Elder Care Manager and owner of Senior Partners, who has 30 years of experience working with seniors and holds a master’s degree with emphasis in Family Relations.

Intergenerational programs can help children develop more positive attitudes toward older people, and seniors who interact with children can experience physical and mental health benefits.
