The United Way of Ventura County will gather community members, child advocates, parents and students to examine efforts to raise graduation rates and develop a plan to better support students in and outside of school.

The summit is one of 100 nationwide convened by America’s Promise Alliance with Premier Sponsor AT&T.

Area leaders in business, education, policy and from Community Based Organizations will come together with youth and parents for this first-ever GradNation Community Summit as part of America’s Promise Alliance’s GradNation campaign. The Summit will provide an opportunity to review current efforts to raise local graduation rates and support youth in and outside of school. As part of the Summit, attendees will begin to develop an action plan that outlines steps to accelerate work to raise graduation rates.

Since its launch in 2010, the GradNation campaign has become a powerful movement to increase national high school graduation rates and prepare young people for success in college, career and life.

The theme of the Summit is Increasing Student Success through Family Engagement and the target audience is families and community members in the Hueneme High School attendance area. A series of interactive workshops will be offered on topics including: school readiness; family resiliency; early warning and responses systems; how to guide and monitor your child during the transition from elementary to middle school, to high school, and to college; and the importance of after school programs and community activities. A resource fair will be available during the lunch break.
