ORCUTT — The Central City Swing Band will perform their annual Summer Concert on Tuesday evening, June 14th, 2016 at 7:30PM. The concert will feature music arranged in a traditional or vintage swing style as well as arrangements in a modern jazz style. The actual playlist is not finalized until the evening of the concert, but you can be sure that the tunes and the styles will be a pleasure to hear performed. The concert is performed in a church with very comfortable seating, but no room for dancing.
The group, led by Mr. Bob Swayze, has been performing on the Central Coast for many, many years. The band features 17 musicians in a standard “big band” configuration: 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets and piano, guitar, bass and drums. The program will also feature vocals by Mitch Latting, lead trumpet and flugelhorn player.
This performance will also feature Bob Swayze playing several bass trombone solos. Bob is an amazing musician as well as the band director, and his skill on the bass trombone is outstanding and wonderful to hear. Several other arrangements will feature solos by members of the trombone and the trumpet sections. The band has had several personnel changes. Rob Price, a noted local Neurologist, has taken over as the drummer for the group. David Becker will be playing 1st Tenor Sax with the group, as a guest, for this performance.
There is no advanced sale of tickets, and there is no admission charge for this event. There is a “donation basket” in the lobby and any donations are split equally with the Church, with the balance going into the band’s music acquisition fund.
The concert will take place at 7:30PM on Tuesday, June 14th 2016 at the Unity Chapel of
Light Church, 1165 Stubblefield Road, Orcutt, CA.
