OXNARD — Teatro de las Américas will present ‘Our Lady of the Clouds’ at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 at the Oxnard College Black Box Theatre, 4000 S. Rose Ave., Oxnard. The play is directed by Pantelis Palamidis.
Written by Arístides Vargas, author of La Razón Blindada, the play was staged recently with great acclaim in both Los Angeles’s 24th Street Theater and Ventura’s Rubicon Theater, play organizers reported in a media release.
Both plays are part of a trilogy about the Argentinian playwright’s long exile in Ecuador where he founded one of the most important experimental theaters in Latin America, Ecuador’s Teatro Malayerba.
‘Our Lady of the Clouds’ is a poetic play written for an actress and an actor that portray several characters and the various aspects of human emotions that develop and are felt when someone is forced to be far from their homeland. Emotions such as nostalgia, humor, love, violence, uprooting, and discrimination come into play. Although it was written from a political exile’s perspective, it has many similarities with the experiences of immigrants from our own places that have decided to emigrate for social and economic reasons that assail our own countries.
Reader’s Theater presented in Spanish.
