VENTURA COUNTY — Dr. Robert Gonzalez will leave his position as director of Ventura County Health Care Agency upon completion of recruitment for his successor, Ventura County Executive Officer Mike Powers announced in a media release on Nov. 14.

“Dr. Gonzales has decided to devote more time to family and practice as a physician. We are grateful to all Dr. Gonzalez has done for our system, and for leading the agency through many critical projects and changes. We recognize and appreciate his decision to devote more time to his family and patients, and we are thrilled that Dr. Gonzalez will continue to serve the agency administratively, in the areas of clinical services development and physician services,” Powers said.

Dr. Gonzalez has led the agency since 2011. Previous to his position as director, Dr. Gonzalez served HCA in multiple roles, most recently as agency medical director. Under his leadership, the Health Care Agency has grown its countywide clinic system, brought new specialty medical services and programs to the residents of Ventura County and launched the construction of a major new county hospital wing that will serve the residents of Ventura County for generations to come, the agency reported.

As chair of the County Medical Center Oversight Committee, County Supervisor Kathy Long acknowledged Dr. Gonzalez’s significant contributions to Ventura County’s residents and the county’s health care system.

“The residents of Ventura County can be proud of their public health care system and its nationwide reputation for innovation and excellence,” Long stated in the release. “Dr. Gonzalez’s leadership has been key in achieving the systems exceptional standards of care. The passion he models in our patients is evident. I know each member of the board of supervisors wishes Dr. Gonzalez well as he returns to his family and patients.”

The County Executive Office will begin recruiting a replacement for Dr. Gonzalez shorty, officials reported.
