VENTURA COUNTY — The Social Justice Fund for Ventura County will present its 5th Annual “On the Road to Change Bus Tour — Immigration at a Crossroads” from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20 departing from the Ventura County Community Foundation Nonprofit Center, 4001 Mission Oaks Blvd., Camarillo.
“This year’s tour will take guests around the county to visit sites and hear firsthand about the impact of current immigration policies on Ventura County residents and activists’ views on needed reforms,” the organization reported in a media release. “The tour will provide a look at the Bracero/Guest worker program, an understanding of the historical context for U.S immigration policies, a conversation with Ventura County’s Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice “Dreamers”, Colectivo Todo Poder Al Pueblo (All power to the people collective), La Hermandad, Cafe on A and the Consulate of Mexico. The tour will end with a tribute to our farm workers at the only national monument honoring them, located in Santa Paula.
“Social Justice Fund’s Bus Tours are designed to spotlight community organizations that are making a positive difference in our corner of the world. More importantly, you get a chance to meet face-to-face with people who are on the front lines of dealing with social justice issues. On this tour, you will be able to engage in dialogue with community organizers who are bringing together immigration coalitions, professors, and other community allies to gain more of an understanding of the U.S immigration system.”
