Volunteers are needed at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24 to help pack about 500 backpacks with school supplies, to be distributed at the monthly Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project community meeting from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at Harrington Elementary School, 2501 Gisler St., Oxnard.

“Please come and join us as we merrily stuff backpacks with notebooks, folders, crayons and other basic school supplies,” Donna Foster, operations manager, stated in a media release. “We can use your help their to distribute backpacks to the children. We are also looking for volunteers to help with children’s crafts from 4 to 5 p.m. Please RSVP or just show up, if you’re feeling spontaneous. We can still use more backpacks for the youngest children (Kindergarten to 3rd grade) and school supplies if you would like to bring any with you to our packing night. Thank you all for all your support and good wishes.”
