SANTA MARIA — The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Board of Education on Tuesday night approved Steve Campbell as the principal of Santa Maria High School.
Superintendent Antonio Garcia made the announcement during the regular board meeting. Campbell has served as interim principal since April 2018 when former principal Joe Domingues retired.
Campbell joined the Saints in 2013 as assistant principal. His AP assignments have involved special programs as well as and curriculum and instruction.
“I am extremely excited and honored to have the opportunity to assure the good things that we have established here at SMHS continue as planned,’’ Campbell said. “We have so many things going in the right direction, I am anxious to get to work in taking the school to the highest level.”
The hiring process attracted 15 applicants from all over California. The district solicited input from SMHS staff on principal characteristics and school priorities.
“I am happy to have Steve Campbell serve as the new Principal of Santa Maria High School,’’ Garcia said. “The selection process clearly revealed and affirmed his fit and preparedness to take the helm. I am confident that he will lead the school to the next level in its trajectory to success.”
As an educator, Campbell has been a physics teacher in Colorado, Dean of Students at Morro Bay High School and Director of Special Projects for Paso Robles Joint Unified School District.
