CAMARILLO — CAL FIRE – Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) to celebrate the designation of 800th Community Firewise USA® community with the KenCrest Ridge community located in Thousand Oaks. This marks a new record for wildfire prepared communities in California. The recognition by the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) highlights the steps the community has taken to ensure that wildfire risk is reduced in their area and that residents are prepared. This celebration also signifies the trend of more Golden State communities working together to achieve the Firewise USA® recognition as our state only celebrated the 700th community in August 2023.
What: The KenCrest Ridge community in Ventura County will be honored as the 800th Firewise USA® community in the state. Individuals and communities participate on a voluntary basis and are recognized as a Firewise Community upon the completion of certain tasks, including forming a committee of residents and other wildfire stakeholders, obtaining a written risk assessment form, developing a three-year action plan for the community, including hosting an outreach event and ultimately completing their application to become a Firewise Community.
