Hello, arts lovers! The weather is hot, but we have some cool news about new funds for arts coming to our county. Plus, check out a few new murals by local artists for which VCAC has recently provided or helped secure grants. We hope you have a chance to see them in person soon!
California Awards $4.75 Million to Central Coast County Arts Alliance that Includes VCAC
VCAC is part of a six-county, Central Coast alliance awarded funds to make grants to local artists and arts organizations for projects to promote health, safety, and resiliency in our communities through the arts. The grant program, California Creative Corps, is an economic and workforce recovery pilot program intended to support pandemic recovery and the environmental, civic, and social engagement of California’s most disproportionately impacted communities. New Mural Highlights Creativity of Local LGBTQ+ Youth
VCAC partnered with Spectrum Collaborative to sponsor a new mural in Simi Valley celebrating the LGBTQ+ youth organization and its community of teens who engage in theater, dance, visual arts and other arts endeavors. Read more

Chumash Tomol Mural at Channel Islands Maritime Museum
Muralist Joe Galarza, Chumash and Tataviam elder Alan Salazar, the Channel Islands Maritime Museum and VCAC have partnered on the Tomol Project, a mural celebrating the Chumash and their tradition of tomol canoes. Learn more

Grant Opportunity: City of Simi Valley Performing Arts Recovery Grant
The Performing Arts Recovery Grant Program offered by the City of Simi Valley is a facility use grant designed to assist artists and arts, cultural, and educational organizations with the rental fees associated with renting the Cultural Arts Center. Grant awards range from $1,000 to $15,000, for rental productions that range from one night to five consecutive weeks. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Learn more
VCAC Appoints Interim Executive Director
The Ventura County Arts Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Rosenas its Interim Executive Director. Many of you already know Craig and his years ofdedication to VCAC, and to our local arts community. A strong advocate for working artists, teaching artists, arts for youth, and increasing arts representation and opportunities for marginalized and underrepresented communities, Craig has served in many capacities to further VCAC’s mission over several years. He has previously been its development director; program manager for its Arts & Youth Justice program; and one of its literary arts teachers, a role he will continue in addition to his new responsibilities. Craig’s passion and dedication to amplifying diverse artistic voices and traditions in Ventura County make him an excellent choice to lead the organization through an exciting period of growth and increased focus on promoting creativity in Ventura County. Please join us in welcoming Craig to his new role!
