Improvements increase safety for vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians along Santa Rosa Road

VENTURA COUNTY — Ventura County Public Works Agency (VCPWA) is hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Santa Rosa Road Bike Lane and Pedestrian Improvements Project on Monday, Jan. 6, at 9 a.m. at the Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School overflow parking lot, located at 13282 Santa Rosa Rd, Camarillo.

The bike lane improvements — which began in August 2024 — complete a stretch of missing bike lane facilities bridging the gap from Simi Valley to Camarillo. This route is part of the Ventura County Transportation Commission Regional Bicycle Wayfinding Plan to provide countywide regional bike connectivity.

Prior to construction, bike lanes were not designated along Santa Rosa Road between Yucca Road and Moorpark Road in Camarillo. There was also no pedestrian walkway from the Hidden Meadows Estates community to the Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School. To address this and improve safety conditions for vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians, VCPWA constructed new bike lanes and pedestrian improvements along Santa Rosa Road to provide pedestrians with alternate modes of travel. Pavement repairs included a slurry seal treatment to provide a smooth pavement surface and the installation of 6-inch wide striping to increase visibility. Additional enhancements included a pedestrian walkway, buffer lanes, rumble strips and signage.

“The installation of buffer bicycle lanes and a pedestrian walkway along Santa Rosa Road will increase safety and encourage active transportation for all road users,” said Anitha Balan, Director of Roads & Transportation for VCPWA.

The project was funded by the County of Ventura Board of Supervisors Assigned Bike Lane Projects Fund, the Public Works Agency Road Fund and Active Transportation Program grant funds.

VCPWA looks forward to further improving Santa Rosa Road with upcoming safety projects such as guardrail upgrades, high-visibility signal backplates, high-friction surface treatment and advanced video detection warning systems.
