Resting, Recharging, and Returning in September Descanso, Recarga, y vuelta en septiembre
We are so grateful for the efforts of many to reopen MCASB this January. We look forward to a few weeks off this month as we prepare for the fall and the opening of Cameron Patricia Downey: Orchid Blues. See you in September!
Cameron Patricia Downey: Orchid Blues
Through December 23, 2023
Cameron Patricia Downey (b. 1998) is an anti-disciplinary artist born and raised in North Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their work oscillates between photography, film, body, sculpture, curation, and otherwise — seeing instruction in the incidental, the precarious, the misremembered and the banal. Their work strives to archive, unfurl, make-altar-of, and bring fantasy to the Blues of Black life and relation.
Recent Program Highlights:
From the stars to the land: Recovering the knowledge of the past and the future Lum Art Talk | In Conversation: Artists Sarah Rosalena and Sandy Rodriguez
MCASB Conversation with Artist Sarah Rosalena and Contemporary Art Review LA Founder Lindsay Preston Zappas
MCASB + Paseo Nuevo | Artist Vanessa Wallace-Gonzales led a Paint at Paseo series, with over 100 people attending each workshop.
Community spotlight: The Camino Scholars, a program of Peoples’ Self-Help Housing, visited the museum to learn about Sarah Rosalena’s work.
MCASB + KCRW Summer Nights featured a live set from KCRW DJ Tyler Boudreaux, a spritz garden, and a tamale stand.
