Santa Paula Art Museum update for June 12 — The Santa Paula Art Museum Is the Place to Be This Summer!

JEANETTE COLE ART CENTER & COLE CREATIVITY CENTER
School’s out for summer, but we’re just getting warmed up here at the Santa Paula Art Museum! We marked the end of the school year by hosting Santa Paula High School’s 21st Annual Medallas de Oro Art Show, which celebrates the work of SPHS art students. This past weekend, a few of our staff joined the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore at their paint out in Malibu. Footage from the day will be featured in the Allied Artists’ upcoming exhibit, opening July 13. On Sunday, we made portrait painting a family affair with our first “Family Art Project” class at the Cole Creativity Center. And there’s A LOT more coming up at the Museum this summer! Check out some of our upcoming events below.

Introducing Our Artist in Residence
Artist in Residence Kickoff Comida
Saturday, June 22, 2019, from 6pm to 8pm
Join the Museum’s inaugural Art in Agriculture – Artist in Residence Lissa Corona for a special comida-style gathering to kick off her residency! Enjoy food, conversations, share stories, and hear about Lissa’s plans for her community-inspired art project. All are welcome and admission to the event is free.
The Museum’s Art In Agriculture artist residency focuses on bringing artists into our agricultural community and providing those artists with experiences and access that is not commonly associated with artistic production. During her residency, Lissa will be out in the community, meeting people and exploring our landscape. Her residency will culminate in a work of art that will be featured in The 12th Annual Art About Agriculture exhibition, which will premiere in November 2019.
Lissa Corona is a San Diego native with family ties to the Santa Paula region. She is a multi-disciplinary artist with work in video, sculpture, and drawing. Her recent artwork focuses on text as both the visual output and a method to explore meaning, interaction and translation. This residency is generously funded by a Limoneira Foundation Fund Grant.
Free Family Day
Free Family Day
Sunday, July 7, 2019, from 12pm to 3pm
Join us for Free Family Day on the first Sunday of every month from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. On Sunday, July 7, we’ll be exploring “Color in Motion” as we celebrate local artist Sam Grasso’s beautiful mobile that hangs inside the Museum’s Cole Creativity Center. Visitors will be able to create their own mobile and take part in a collaborative art project led by teaching artist Lisa Ann Mahony. Admission is free for everyone and all materials will be provided.
Book Club
Book Club
Starts Wednesday, July 17, 2019, from 7pm to 9pm
Now in its 25th year of publication, The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron has earned a place as a cornerstone book on the subject of creativity. Join us to explore the ideas and challenges that reveal the symbiosis between our creative and spiritual selves. Based on the foundational idea that we all have something to share and learn from each other, all are welcome to participate including first time readers, return readers, the artistically curious, and professional artists. Monthly gatherings will be held on the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00pm to 9:00pm starting Wednesday, July 17, 2019. We will explore two chapters at a time. Participation is free and drop-ins are welcome. Those attending should purchase or borrow their own copy of the book (available on Amazon). Preregistration is not required, but RSVPs are appreciated.
