SANTA MARIA — Business is business, and business can be fun, says the winners of the SMHS team.

Business economics students Jose Garza and Josue Lopez Vega recently placed 6thout of nearly 1,100 teams who competed in the Los Angeles Region’s 10-week simulation entitled the “Stock Market Game”.

The duo were given a virtual $100,000 to invest during the online experience that was designed to engage students in global capital markets and spark interest in economics and personal finance.

Jose and Josue went right to work performing research and strategizing their investments. They made trades in real-time and dealt with broker fees.

Jose said he was happy to get a chance to prepare for a financially independent future.

“We purchased stock for various companies that we researched and we are happy with our overall outcome,’’ Garza said.

Saint Business Economics Teacher Cindy Quaid couldn’t be prouder of her seniors.

“They really took an interest following their investments, even with all the ups and downs,’’ Quaid added.
