SANTA BARBARA — The Santa Barbara Museum of Art will present ‘Adult Art Studio Class — A Painted Journal from Latin America’ from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, the museum reported in a media release.

The “Myth and Materiality” exhibit serves as the inspiration for this full-day workshop. Paint under the influence of artists from Mexico, Cuba and South America, artwork that ranges from strong, bold and linear to loose, sketchy and organic. Improvise with color and contour lines, repeated motifs, geometric abstractions, loose, drippy watercolor sketches and high-contrast graphic designs. Learn to approach quick studies with spontaneity and confidence and push through creative limitations by creating a journal.

The class will be held at the museum’s Ridley-Tree Education Center at McCormick House, 1600 Santa Barbara St. The cost is $80 and pre-registration is required. To register, visit http://www.sbma.net/adultclasses
