Pfizer Covid-19 Booster Shots Now Available For Certain Populations

Last week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended a booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in certain populations and for those in high risk occupational and institutional settings.

Persons that meet the new CDC guidelines are able to access this booster dose in locations throughout Santa Barbara county (primary care providers and local pharmacies). This updated interim guidance from CDC allows for people who are at highest risk for COVID-19 to receive a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shot to help increase their protection. Persons who have received a Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine are NOT eligible to receive a booster yet under this guidance.

The CDC recommends the following populations should receive a booster shot 6 months following their second dose of their Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine:

•      People 65 years and older;

•      Residents in long-term care settings; and

•      People aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions

The CDC recommends the following populations may receive a booster shot 6 months following their second dose of their Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine:

•      People aged 18-49 years with underlying medical conditions; and

•      People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institution

Draft Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment Available for Comment

The County of Santa Barbara Planning and Development Department (P&D) is announcing the release of a Draft Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment (CCVA) available HERE.

The County is accepting public comments on the draft assessment through 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 22 and they can be sent to ClimateVulnerabilityAssessment@countyofsb.org

The CCVA is the result of a multi-year effort to improve community resiliency by analyzing how climate change could harm our community. The CCVA provides an opportunity for a closer look at specific climate-related hazards, like extreme heat, wildfires, sea-level rise, drought, coastal and inland flooding, agricultural pests and diseases, landslides, and extreme weather events, and how these hazards are likely to affect our communities now, and in the future.

For more information, the public can visit the One Climate project websiteand sign up to receive e-mail updates specific to the CCVA, Climate Change Adaptation Plan, and Safety Element Update. For more information about the Safety Element Update, click here.
