RSVP for May 22 Kinship Family Fun Day

Kids & Families Together and the Ventura County Leadership Academy are hosting their 3rd annual “Kinship Family Fun Day” for kinship families from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at the El Sueño Equestrian Center, 520 Kingsgrove Drive, Somis. Space is limited so RSVP  to Kim Becker at 805.643.1446.

Kinship refers to the courageous grandparents, aunts/uncles, and others who are raising children of friends or relatives, the organization reported in a media release. This occurs when birth parents are unable to do so due to incarceration, addiction, medical/physical illnesses, death, military leave or other family emergencies.  The latest census data indicates almost 5,000 such families live in Ventura County!

Refreshments, crafts and carnival style games will be provided for attendees.  Local organizations and businesses will provide information about resources and services available to kinship families. Both will allow kinship families to network with others in similar situations and understand what assistance is available to them in the community.

Kids and Families Together is a not for profit center connecting birth, foster, kinship, and adoptive families for family preservation and individual health & wholeness in Ventura County.  For more information, visit www.kidsandfamilies.org/
