SANTA MARIA — The Kindness Club at Righetti High School proved it’s cool to be kind.
They cooked for and then served about 110 people at the Good Sam Homeless Shelter in Santa Maria on Tuesday. They also collected and donated socks, blankets and left decorations for their bunks and sleeping halls.
“Heartwarming smiles and thankful kind wishes were given to us in return for our hard work on the special dinner,’’ said club president and founder Isaiah Moon. “We had been planning this event for weeks and it turned out very successful. The Christmas season is when most groups decide to volunteer at the shelter, but in the coming months like January-March, the shelter is often left without volunteers and needs help serving the community dinners.’’
The Warrior Kindness Club had about 12 members participate. The purpose of the 25-member club is to give back to community and show that anyone can do or help in their very own community, especially if a group of high school students can make an impact, Moon added.
