SANTA MARIA — During the last two months, PVHS students have had the opportunity to engage in on-campus and virtual workshops to aid in the completion of their State FFA Degree’s, the highest honor given to students while enrolled in high school agriculture classes.
Pioneer Valley FFA had 31 students apply and receive this award, providing them with a golden FFA emblem pin, graduation sash, letterman’s embroidered “FFA” letter for their jacket, and eligibility to apply for millions of dollars in FFA scholarships. Collectively, these students have productively invested over $186,000 in their Supervised Agricultural Education projects over the last four years.
To earn this degree, students must dedicate a minimum of 500 hours and productively earn or invest over $1000 to their Supervised Agricultural Experience projects. Students must also engage in at least 25 hours of community service, amongst other extra and co-curricular requirements.
Agriculture advisor Tyler Dickinson states, “Despite these challenging times, students at Pioneer Valley continue to unite and find success with their FFA, SAE, campus, and community involvement. We are thankful for our supportive staff, administration, and community.”
Chapter Reporter and State Degree recipient Elizabeth Beebe says that, “Earning my state degree has made me feel extremely proud, not only of myself but my peers who have spent hours upon hours working with their SAE projects. I am fortunate for the confidence, skill, and knowledge gained in my projects and for the opportunities that are ahead.”
The PV Agriculture Department would like to thank all parents, staff, administration, counselors, and community for being an integral role in the success of our students.
