OXNARD —The Sight + Sound Film Festival, Oxnard’s newest film festival showcasing cutting edge independent cinema and presented by the Oxnard Performing Arts Center and Oxnard College, on Aug. 1 unveiled its film lineup for 2019. The first annual festival will screen a diverse selection of feature and short films from around the world, including works from local filmmakers. For its inaugural event, the festival will take place in the main auditorium of the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way, for the entire weekend of September 20-22.
“Oxnard and the surrounding area is truly a place of artistic and creative confluence with the likes of filmmakers, graphic artists, musicians, and more, so creating a film festival here is the perfect fit,” said Luis Güereca, Festival Programming Director. “I’m extremely excited to be a part of this festival and to work with amazing individuals who care so much about the arts and this community,” said Güereca.
Anitra Lawson, head of the film and television program at Oxnard College, also serves as an organizer and educational outreach coordinator for Sight + Sound. “Oxnard College is dedicated to exposing students to community events, partnerships and collaboration. The Sight + Sound Film Festival provides an awesome opportunity for students to screen their creative work, assist with festival production and host workshops,” reflects Lawson.
The Sight + Sound Film Festival will screen 24 short films and 6 feature length works representing filmmakers from Oxnard, Ventura County and from around the U.S., as well as Mexico, France, India, Iran, Brazil, Cuba, Taiwan, and the U.K. The festival will also feature Q&A sessions with filmmakers, live musical performances and DJ sets, screening after-parties, and more.
