Through Oct. 19 — Yarrow Family YMCA Celebrates 30th Anniversary in Westlake Village

WESTLAKE VILLAGE — The Yarrow Family YMCA in Westlake Village is celebrating its 30th anniversary through Oct. 19. Those who join the Y during that week will receive $30 off of their first month of membership. On Saturday, October 19, “It’s a Wrap Boutique” will be held at the Yarrow YMCA (31105 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Westlake Village) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Twenty percent of proceeds go to support YMCA programs.

The Yarrow YMCA began as the Triunfo YMCA in 1989 with a small office in Westlake Village. All Y programs were conducted offsite at Agoura High School and local elementary schools. It was only after 20 years of planning and fundraising that began in 1999, was a stand-alone YMCA facility built. The Yarrow Family YMCA opened this year.

Activities throughout the celebration week include free coffee from the Y Café October 14 (6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.), giveaways in the lobby all day October 15, free tacos from Taco Guy October 16 (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.), free face painting and other kids’ activities October 17 (3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and free smoothies at the Y Café from October 18 (3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.). The Y’s Jeep Gladiator Raffle drawing will take place on October 18 (sevymca.org/yjeep) at 5:00 p.m.

The Yarrow YMCA is one of three branches of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA. “The Yarrow has grown along with the community,” says Greg Koubek, Yarrow YMCA’s executive director. “It’s gratifying to see the Y being such an integral part of so many people’s lives as they strive to be healthier and physically fit.”

The Yarrow Y serves Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Oak Park. Other branches are the Conejo Valley YMCA in Thousand Oaks and the Simi Valley Family YMCA.
