November News from People’s Self-Help Housing

eNewsletter | November 2022

As part of the National Summer Learning Association’s convention in Washington, DC., Director of Education Joanna Dominguez (second from right), as part of a panel of experts, presented on our education program Camino Scholars.
Dear Friend,
With gratitude I am counting the many blessings 2022 has brought to our organization.

Along with the continued production of affordable housing, which your encouragement, inspiration, guidance and financial resources have made possible, this year we are celebrating ‘20 Years of Supportive Services’.

Since its humble beginnings around a picnic table, and growing to ten sited-based learning centers, our education program ‘Camino Scholars’ has bolstered the efforts of thousands of our youth. Resulting in academic graduations, previously unattainable career paths, and scores of personal success stories. Families have been strengthened, neighborhoods benefitted, and entire communities economically enriched. And because of two decades of having licensed social workers on staff, seniors, veterans, the formerly homeless, and those living with disabilities, have found security, dignity, and independence.

Our supportive services come in many guises; compassionate property management, dedicated maintenance teams, career counselors, fundraisers, financial specialists, information technicians, designers and construction crews, all working together to ensure that our residents have assistance when they need it, and have a place to call home.

The blessings of your investment in these supportive services have allowed thousands to break out of poverty, access higher education, realize the American dream of homeownership, and to grow, prosper and thrive.

As you contemplate your seasonal donations, I hope you’ll consider continuing to build on the successes of ‘20 Years of Supportive Services’.

Accelerating Development
A new major investment from the State of California, through the Housing and Community Development Accelerator program, will allow PSHH to start construction on new housing in the City of Oxnard: Cypress Place at Garden City.

This two-phase, 100% affordable housing development comprises 150 apartments with a unit mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units for families earning 30-80% of the area median income.

This project is one-of-a-kind, as the first property in Oxnard to be approved through the State Senate Bill 35, and is PSHH’s first development in the city!

Housing Honor, Housing Valor, Housing Service

One in ten homeless adults is a veteran, and of those struggling to find a place to call home, about half are also living with a disability.

A roof over a head may give a fresh start, but your help ensures that our veterans get the additional services needed to build mental health, forge physical wellbeing, and move forward.

Invest in those who have given of themselves in unimaginable ways, by honoring their fortitude and valor by making your generous gifttoday.
