Nov. 3 — Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara announces SAVE THE DATE — The Art Awards, other events

Please save the date for The Art Awards our new annual fall event to raise critical funds to support the important ongoing work of the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara to produce exhibitions and programming that encourage discovery, cultivate new perspectives, and challenge the way we see and experience the world, ourselves, and each other.

On November 3, 2024, please join us as we celebrate the visionary artistic excellence and contributions of five artists: DJ Javier, Brian Calvin, Rosha Yaghmai, Spenser Jaimes, and Angel Demon.

Reminder >> Sangre de Nopal Opening Reception at Fowler Museum at UCLA Next Saturday, July 20th – Shuttle Service Announcement

Organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCASB) and the Fowler Museum at UCLA, and part of PST ART: Art & Science Collide, Sangre de Nopal/Blood of the Nopal offers an expanded understanding of Indigenous cultivation of cochineal, an insect-derived red dye developed by the Zapotec peoples around 500 BC, and centers ancestral knowledge, technical experimentation, and brings a special focus to immigration and labor justice.

On Saturday, July 20th, the opening reception will feature a live performance by Filarmónica Maqueos Music in the spirit of Guelaguetza, the Zapotec word for offering or reciprocity. Join us for an Indigenous welcome, concert, and exhibition preview. Enjoy tacos de nopales from X’Tiosu Kitchen, paletas from Mateo’s, and a prickly pear cocktail sponsored by Xicaru Mezcal.

Join MCASB’s Fabián Leyva-Barragán, Co-Executive Director, on a special shuttle service leaving Santa Barbara at 2:30 pm and returning to Santa Barbara by 10:00pm (departing Fowler at 8pm). Cost is $100 per person, to register please contact development@mcasantabarbara.org, space is limited.
