Nov. 15, 16 — ‘Fiesta Mexicana’ to be held at Santa María High School

SANTA MARIA — Take a colorful trip south of the border as three local groups combine to present “Fiesta Mexicana” on Friday, November 15th and Saturday, November 16th.

The event will feature performances by the ballet folklórico’s of Righetti High School, Allan Hancock College, community youth group Corazón de la Costa and the Righetti Marimba Band. This year’s special guest is Los Danzantes de Aztlán from Fresno State University.

The shows will be held at the Ethel Pope Auditorium, located at Santa María High School, 901 South Broadway. Showtime is at 7:00pm.

Fiesta Mexicana” is a two-hour program featuring ten different regions of traditional Mexican folk dance and several contemporary selections as well. The performance will include dance selections from the Mexican states of Campeche, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Jalisco.

Combined with this impressive variety of traditional folk dances will be a presentation of traditional and contemporary Mexican and Latino songs performed by Righetti’s Marimba Band.

“The program is festive and is filled with a wide variety of exciting music and dances reflecting the diverse world of Mexican and Latino music and dance,’’ said ERHS Marimba Band and Ballet Folklorico Director Ricardo Gabaldon. “Our students will use music and dance to engage the Santa Maria community in Latino heritage and culture.’’

Tickets for the “Fiesta” performance can be purchased from the student performers as well as at the Righetti Business Office. All seats are $10.00 in advance/$15.00 at the door.
