VENTURA — The Museum of Ventura County will host local Chicano artists at a catalog release event, 5:30 to 6 p.m., Nov. 1, at 100 E. Main St., Ventura. The Ayer y Todavia catalog features the artwork of the 2017 Ayer y Todavia exhibit and features the artwork of Margaret Garcia, Frank Romero, Leo Limon, Salomon Huerta, Jack Vargas, Harry Gamboa, Diane Gamboa, Ignacio Gomez and Patssi Valdez, among others, and will include several rarely-seen works on loan from collectors. Several of the artists will be available to sign catalogs and share insight on their work. Catalogs are $20.
Admission to the event is free and is part of a larger Día de los Muertos celebration at the Museum featuring altars created by the Federacion de Clubs Guanajuatenses, music provided by local composer and guitarist Javier San Roman, artwork by visiting Guanajuato master craftsman Eduardo Serrano Moreno, who will create a sawdust “mandala-like” art piece, and several current pageant winners from the different states in Mexico dressed in their states’ official costumes.
