PLANS FOR RE-OPENING
While all sites are still closed to the public, MVC is preparing to re-open with limited, members-only hours, in mid-July, expanding to the general public in August.
Thank you to all of you who completed our online survey. Your responses are critical in developing our re-opening plans. Our first priority upon re-opening will be the safety of guests and staff. We will have more information about what to expect when you visit the museum in the next e-blast.

It is interesting to be leading a history organization during historic times.
This week, MVC has lots to share with you, including new jigsaw puzzles, the launch of an on-line film series discussion, a new virtual tour, and much more.
First, we will share with you some introspection we have been doing. Over the last two weeks, MVC has been working to define what the Museum of Ventura County’s role can and should be during this time of reckoning for racism, both conscious and unconscious. After much thought and internal debate, we believe that as a regional art and history museum, our role is to:
1. Inspire and promote dialogue,
2. Foster a culture of the inclusion of diverse perspectives and populations,
3. Document the regional activism and response through proactive collecting, and
4. Share the history of regional events that speak to what is happening now.
We are working to develop programs and platforms that will fulfill these goals, and will share them with our community as we refine them.
We also are committed to addressing racism. MVC was forced to start a deep self-examination when we faced an organizational crisis in 2017. At that time, we realized that our internal and external practices and structure were not as inclusive as they should be for an organization that is of, by, and for the county. To that end, we created policies that specify that our committees should be representative of the geographic, ethnic, and socio-economic make-up of the county. We are changing our collections policy and plan to ensure that we proactively build a collection that represents our region’s diverse stories. These are good beginnings: but there is much more that needs to be done.
We would like to know what you think we as an institution can and should do. Please click here to send in your ideas, thoughts or concerns.
