The Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) is seeking volunteers to fill 500 backpacks with school supplies starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 at Harrington Elementary School, 2501 So. Gisler St., Oxnard.
MICOP is also seeking volunteers from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 to help set up for its monthly Mixteco community meeting. Volunteers will also work with the children on arts and crafts projects and help clean up at the end of the meeting.
“Thank you all for your fantastic support for Operation Backpack,” said Donna Foster, operations manager. “Now that we have 500 backpacks and supplies we will be packing the appropriate supplies for each age group in each backpack. We can use lots of help for this!
“Thank you for all your support and good wishes! It’s going to be an awesome beginning of the school year for the Mixteco children,” she said.
