The board of directors of ARTS Obispo / San Luis Obispo County Arts Council accepted the resignation of its executive director, Marta Peluso, the organization reported this week in a media release.
Peluso has lead the organization for five years, since January 2006, implementing a variety of successful and highly visible programs in partnership with the California Arts Council, county-wide community organizations, SLO County schools, City and County of SLO, and the talented artistic community of the central coast, the organization reported. Her departure is planned for the end of May 2011.
“All of us at ARTS Obispo greatly appreciate Marta’s leadership, much has been accomplished during her tenure: Poetry Out Loud reaches 1900 high school students across SLO County; Open Studios Art Tour is now the largest public-access visual art program in the County; and ARTS Space Obispo was established and currently hosts a wide variety of exhibitions, talks, workshops, classes, and performances throughout the year. Marta leaves the organization in a much stronger position and the board is ready to guide its next steps,” said Mary Kay Harrington, ARTS Obispo board president.
Peluso is a well-respected artist in her own right, the organization reported. She currently teaches a photography course at Cuesta College and directed their art gallery for 16 years before joining the staff at ARTS Obispo. It was upon her suggestion that the SLO County Arts Council adopted the name/logo ARTS Obispo to create more visibility for the organization. About her time at ARTS Obispo.
“It has been a great honor to serve with so many talented and dedicated board and staff members in building this organization and helping the arts flourish in San Luis Obispo County,” Peluso said.
