This story of an early Ventura County sheep rancher and his remarkable tale has been overlooked and almost lost over time. With hard work, he built a thriving ranch with the biggest sheep herd in California. His untimely death by poisoning led to his family being victimized by a relentless legal predator who tried for eight years to take a piece of the valuable estate. Read more.

Volunteer Opportunity for 2nd Nowruz Event

The Museum of Ventura County is seeking volunteers to participate in the planning of our second annual Nowruz event on March 18, 2023. Nowruz is the Persian-language term for the day of the Iranian New Year, also known as the Persian New Year. The Museum of Ventura County is seeking a Museum Educator to join our staff!

The Museum Educator position is a part-time (15-20 hours per week), hourly position offered for six months between January 2023-June 2023. This position provides program support for the Museum of Ventura County (MVC) education programs, as well as supporting education at all museum locations in Ventura and Santa Paula, and off-site education and outreach programs and events.

A surprising history of the 1920s and Prohibition in Ventura County. As population and wealth boomed, creativity flourished – but so did a tide of repression and exclusion. This exhibit tells the local story of the jazz age through our collections and archives.

This current set of Figures is on display through February 5, 2023!

People argue about whether the Figures are works of art, historical objects, or maybe something else entirely. Mr. Stuart himself objects to both the titles of Artist and Historian. Investigate each Figure closely so that you can decide for yourself. Learn more here.
