GUADALUPE — Kermit McKenzie Intermediate School eighth graders will join a drive-thru parade when they are promoted to high school on June 2.
The social-distancing celebration is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the school parking lot with teachers and staff cheering them on. Student arrival times will be by last name. One vehicle per graduate with persons from the same household. Vehicles can be decorated as much as safely possible.
When the vehicle approaches the last leg of the route, the graduate will get out to receive their promotion certificate and have a photo op for parents to take pictures. About 150 students are promoting.
“With the easing of the restrictions county-wide for graduations/ceremonies, we are able to host an event that will celebrate the accomplishments of our 8th graders,’’ said Principal Alex Jauregui. “Having been in distance learning mode since March, this event will reiterate the notion that we did not forget about them and that their hard work will not go without notice.’’
The virtual video will be released at 5pm on Tuesday as well.
The Guadalupe Union School District has more than 1,400 students. The majority will attend Righetti High School.
