Donations being accepted for ‘Prom Dress Project’

The Young Leaders Society has officially launched the annual Prom Dress Project, a prom dress recycling program for underprivileged students.

The deadline to drop off prom dresses is March 30, reported Nancy Rodriguez of the Young Leaders Society, a program of the United Way of Ventura County.

Individuals interested in helping can donate and drop-off their used prom dresses at various locations in Oxnard and Ventura or at the United Way of Ventura County Office in Camarillo.

Last year, hundreds of dresses were collected and distributed to young women throughout Ventura County who would not otherwise have the opportunity to purchase dresses for upcoming proms.

Dresses will be collected at the:

  • United Way of Ventura County, 1317 Del Norte Road, Suite 100, Camarillo
  • Gold Coast Broadcasting, 2284 So. Victoria Ave., Ventura
  • Salzer’s Records, 5777 Valentine Ave., (weekdays and weekends), Ventura
  • Pacifica High School, 600 E. Gonzales Road, Oxnard
  • JDK Shoes, 1219 Saviers Road, (Monday through Saturday), Oxnard
  • Best Western Oxnard Inn, 1156 So. Oxnard Blvd., Oxnard

This year’s dress fitting event will take place at Pacifica High School in Oxnard on Tuesday, April 10.

All dresses donated by the amazing people in our community will be available for you to try on, and if the dress fits, it’s yours, Rodriguez said.

Festivities begin right after school. For more information, send an email to info@promdressproject.org
