SANTA MARIA — Delta High School will be teaming up with non-profits and others for a holiday drive-through event that will provide food and other necessities to needy students and their families today.
The outreach starts at 4 p.m. in front of the Ocrutt campus. Families will pick up a basket filled with a blanket, towel, hygiene products and groceries.
“Delta has been great this year,’’ said senior Amando Arozla. “They are doing so much for us and we are very lucky.”
The community members helping to make this effort a reality include Element Church, Recuse Mission, Crestwood Church, Altrusa Foundation of Golden Valley, Catholic Charities, an anonymous donor and Costco, according to outreach consultant Martha Janzen.
“We saw a need for our students and we do not want anything to interfere with their education,’’ said special ed teacher Catherine Carpenter.
English and art teacher Glynda Maddaleno agreed, adding, “It is amazing to be able to support our kids and their families during this crazy time of isolation. We are so thankful so many people are reaching out to make sure the holidays are full of joy.”
Normally, school officials hold a DHS Holiday Store that is full of free Christmas gifts.
“It’s just magical when our staff comes together with community partners to make the holidays a little brighter for our students and families,’’ said principal Sal Reynoso.
