Deadline approaches to RSVP for May 4 ‘Youth Empowerment Summit’ at Oxnard College

 

The registration deadline is Tuesday, May 1 for the annual “Youth Empowerment Summit,” which will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 4 at Oxnard College, 4000 So. Rose Ave., Oxnard, the Young Leaders Society reported in a media release.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

The event will consist career panels and workshops, which cover a broad and diverse array of different professions as well as provide relevant and timely information, Susana Aldaz, community investment director at the United Way of Ventura County, stated in a media release.

The career panels at the summit are comprised of three to five professionals from a selected career or business field. These professionals represent careers in such areas as Law, Medicine, Media, Real Estate, and Education. Panelists relay their own unique paths on how they discovered their career and share tips on what has made them successful. In addition; there are several workshops at the Summit that provide up to date information on relevant topics for students such as Financial Aid, Resume Tips, and basic Financial Literacy.

The event will offer students an opportunity to earn scholarships.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: Students who participate at the Youth Empowerment Summit may be eligible to receive a scholarship of up to $1000 to assist with their higher education needs. Criteria for receiving a scholarship includes meeting a minimum GPA of 3.0, performing a minimum of 10 hours of community service, providing two letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and proof of acceptance/transfer to an accredited college or university.
