County Beaches and Parks Open for Passive Use – Social Distancing Guidelines Still In Place

Residents who visit Ventura County Harbor Department-managed beaches and parks will have improved recreational opportunities and be able sit and lounge while practicing social distancing guidelines.

Harbor Department Director Mark Sandoval said the County is pleased to ease some of the soft closure restrictions –limiting beach and park access to physical activity – put in place in April 2020. The soft closure restrictions will be removed at Kiddie, Silver Strand, and Hollywood beaches and at the Harbor parks, including Peninsula and Harbor View.

Gatherings with members outside of a household are still prohibited by the Stay Well VC order issued by Ventura County Health Officer Dr. Robert Levin, and sports play involving more than two individuals will continue to be prohibited. Restrooms at all beaches and parks will remain open. A number of the larger beach and park parking lots will be open as well.

“Our ability to provide increased access to our beaches and parks is a direct result of Ventura County residents’ ability to practice social distancing guidelines and flatten the curve,” Director Sandoval said. “We are appreciative of everyone’s patience and need them to continue to be safe.”

Director Sandoval said the move to remove soft closure restrictions is consistent with actions taken recently by neighboring beaches in the cities of Port Hueneme, Oxnard, Ventura, and beaches managed by the State of California in Ventura County. Law enforcement agencies will continue to patrol the beaches and educate the public on maintaining a safe distance from one another.

A Message from the Covid Compliance Team

Many local businesses are now allowed to reopen as Ventura County continues to meet the State criteria for Covid-19 response.

There have been many inquiries regarding what workplace types are able to reopen, and what safety measures need to be in place to protect employees and customers as they do so. We encourage you to visit  www.vcreopens.com to access information on what workplace types are able to register and reopen or expand services at this time.

There you will find helpful and informative links to help guide you through safely reopening your business. When you select “Complete the attestation form by clicking here”, you will be able to select your industry/workplace type. Once selected, you will see the guidance and template that relate to that particular industry.

We are currently in the Expanded Stage 2 phase of reopening. The state has specifically stated the following sectors, businesses, establishments, or activities are not permitted to operate in the State of California at this time. Ventura County is not allowed to open these businesses at this time:

  • Personal services such as nail salons, tattoo parlors, gyms and fitness studios
  • Indoor museums, kids museums, gallery spaces, zoos and libraries
  • Community centers, including public pools, playgrounds, and picnic areas
  • Entertainment venues, such as movie theaters, gaming, gambling, arcade venues, pro sports,
  • Hospitality services, such as bars, wineries, tasting rooms and lounges
  • Nightclubs
  • Concert venues
  • Live audience sports
  • Festivals
  • Theme parks
  • Hotels/lodging for leisure and tourism – non-essential travel
  • Higher Education

We want to share a heartfelt, “thank you”, to each business owner who has been so diligent in response and cooperation during this time helping to slow the spread and flatten the curve!
