SANTA MARIA — The Central Coast Association of School Psychologists (CCASP) has awarded the Meritorious Service Award to Pioneer Valley High School Psychologist Erica Castro for the 2018-19 school year.

The recognition highlights Castro’s service to students, teachers, administrators, parents, community agencies and to her profession. She is credited with offering strong and mature resolutions to students, being a mentor and delivering information to parents in a calm, professional and empathetic way.

“I feel honored to be the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award, and I’m humbled to be recognized for my service as a mental health provider,’’ Castro said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to students and families at Pioneer Valley High School.”

Principal Shanda Herrera is proud to have Castro on the panther team.

“Erica is an advocate and has assisted our students through many academic, emotional and social situations, Herrera said. “She promotes positive behavior and assists our students so they can process their problems and plan goals and actions.’’
