VENTURA COUNTY — Ventura County Public Works Agency (VCPWA) recently awarded Rick Cadena, Vimie Alvarez, and Manny Romero, as the three 2022 Employees of the Year for outstanding performance in their respective fields.

Celebrating 28 years at VCPWA and named Manager of the Year, Rick Cadena was recognized for his work and dedication to customer service. He began his career at VCPWA Watershed Protection as a Maintenance Worker II, working his way through the ranks, and eventually becoming Superintendent. His job’s major roles include concrete and fence repair, service road grading and construction, vegetation management, and oversite of 23 PWA staff members.
“I was taught from a young age by my parents and grandparents that you should always come to work and do your job the best you can no matter what it is you do,” said Cadena. “It really was a great feeling to have my years of work recognized because I really do enjoy my job, and I really care about providing the best service possible to the citizens of Ventura County.”

Awarded the Office Employee of the Year, Central Services’ Vimie Alvarez has been with VCPWA for 21 years, creating and developing new systems and automating financial reports to streamline the tedious reporting process. Alvarez also assists Joe Pope, Water and Sanitation Director, in making informed to decisions regarding finances and maintaining consistent cash reserves.
“For several seconds, I was stunned, but got thrilled and exhilarated as I stood up to receive the recognition,” said Alvarez. “I am earnestly grateful that management appreciated and recognized the contribution and the effort I made to provide the best possible financial tool to my department stakeholders.”
As a 22-year VCPWA veteran, Manny Romero was awarded Employee of the Year in the Operations and Maintenance category. Romero started at VCPWA as extra help, steadily climbed the ladder, and was recently promoted to Superintendent of Roads & Transportation.

“I am most proud of my pride and perseverance to VCPWA. Job duties can sometimes get monotonous, so being able to persevere through difficult times has matured me both professionally and personally,” said Romero. “The recognition means so much to me knowing that the effort put into my work was not only recognized, but valued, it has been one of the proudest moments of my life.”??

CONDADO DE VENTURA — La Agencia de Obras Públicas del Condado de Ventura (VCPWA) galardonó recientemente a Rick Cadena, Vimie Álvarez y Manny Romero, como los tres Empleados del Año 2022 más destacados por su desempeño en sus respectivas áreas.
Celebrando 28 años en la VCPWA y siendo nombrado Gerente del Año, Rick Cadena fue reconocido por su trabajo y dedicación en el servicio al cliente. Comenzó su carrera en la VCPWA Watershed Protection como trabajador de mantenimiento II, ascendiendo en el escalafón hasta convertirse en superintendente. Las principales funciones de su trabajo incluyen la reparación de concreto y cercas, la nivelación y construcción de caminos de servicio, el manejo de la vegetación y la supervisión de 23 miembros del personal de la PWA.
“Mis padres y abuelos me enseñaron desde muy joven que siempre hay que ir a trabajar y hacer el trabajo de la mejor manera posible sin importar lo que se haga”, dijo Cadena. “Realmente fue una gran sensación que se reconocieran mis años de trabajo porque verdaderamente lo disfruto y realmente me importa brindar el mejor servicio posible a los ciudadanos del Condado de Ventura”.
Recibiendo el premio por Oficinista del año, Vimie Álvarez de Servicios Centrales, ha trabajado en la VCPWA por 21 años, creando y desarrollando nuevos sistemas y automatizando informes financieros para agilizar el tedioso proceso de elaboración de reportes. “Por varios segundos, me quedé sin habla, pero me emocioné y me alegré cuando me puse de pie para recibir el reconocimiento”, dijo Álvarez. “Agradezco sinceramente que la dirección haya apreciado y reconocido la contribución y el esfuerzo que hice para ofrecer la mejor herramienta financiera posible a quienes interactúan con mi departamento”
Como veterano de 22 años en la VCPWA, Manny Romero fue galardonado con el premio al Empleado del Año en lacategoría de Operaciones y Mantenimiento. Romero comenzó en la VCPWA como ayuda adicional, fue escalando posiciones yrecientemente fue ascendido a Superintendente de Caminos y Transporte.
“Lo que más me satisface es el orgullo y la perseverancia como parte de la VCPWA. Losdeberes laborales pueden volverse monótonos, así que ser capaz deperseverar en los momentos difíciles me ha hecho madurar tantoprofesional como personalmente”, dijo Romero. “El reconocimiento significa mucho para mí, sabiendo queel esfuerzo que puse en mi trabajo no sólo fue visto, sino valorado,éste ha sido uno de los momentos de mayor orgullo en mi vida.”
