The County of Ventura Celebrates Latino Heritage Month |
Latino Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 – October 15. During this month we will celebrate the diverse cultures, values and traditions of individuals with Latin American heritage and who self-identify as Latino/a, Latinx and Hispanic. We will share personal narratives from County employees as they reflect on their own unique experiences.
This national observation was first introduced in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week, under President Lyndon B. Johnson. On August 17, 1988 Congress passed a law to extend it into a 30-day celebration during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. Since then, government institutions have been honoring this national month-long celebration.
Ever wondered why the observation is celebrated during this time? The dates coincide with independence celebrations throughout Latin America. |

Spanish and/or Mixteco interpretation services will be provided for both meetings upon request.
The noise mitigations that will be discussed during both meetings are nearly two years in the making and are expected to have a positive impact on our collective work to improve noise exposure for neighbors of both airports.
Once these meetings are completed, the next step in the process will be a public hearing slated for the first quarter of 2025 in which the Department of Airports and its consultants will provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the final documents. There will not be a Q&A element during the public hearing, however all public comments will be noted and included in the final documents that will be submitted to the FAA. |

AGENCY SPOTLIGHT – Department of Airports
The Ventura County Department of Airports owns and manages both Camarillo Airport and Oxnard Airport, offering vital connections to the national airspace system. These two airports serve as essential hubs for businesses and individual aircraft owners, providing a range of services and facilities that support general aviation, corporate aviation, and other aeronautical activities.
Camarillo Airport, known for its full-service fixed-base operator and executive terminal, and Oxnard Airport, serving regional air traffic, play key roles in supporting the local economy and aviation community.
These airports are not only hubs for businesses and individual aircraft owners but also hold rich histories tied to the military. Formerly military bases during World War II, Camarillo Airport was once Oxnard Air Force Base, and Oxnard Airport supported military operations.
Today, they have been transformed into thriving centers for general and corporate aviation, offering full-service facilities. Their military past continues to shape their identity as critical resources for the local economy and aviation community, while preserving ties to their historical significance. |
