VENTURA — Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sept. 23 announced the appointment of Vianey Lopez as District 5 County Supervisor to fill the vacancy created by the untimely passing of Supervisor Carmen Ramirez on August 12, 2022. Lopez will serve as appointed District 5 County Supervisor until the next general election in November 2024.
A long-time resident of South Oxnard, Lopez was elected to the Oxnard City Council in November 2018 and re-elected in November 2020. She serves as District Director for Assemblymember Monique Limón in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Prior to joining Assemblymember Limón, Lopez worked for former Congresswoman Lois Capps. For six years, Lopez served as a Trustee on the Hueneme Elementary School District Board. She served on the Board of Directors of the Future Leaders of America. She is the former vice president of the Ventura County Women’s Political Council (VCWPC) and is an active member of the Ventura County League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).
“I am honored and humbled to have been appointed by Governor Newsom to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors to carry out the term of my friend and mentor, Carmen Ramirez,” said Vianey Lopez. “Carmen was unwavering in her passion for public service and the belief in working together for the greater good. I am committed to this purpose and working towards building a better and brighter future for Ventura County and its residents. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of support I have received from people throughout our community.”
Lopez holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Loyola Marymount University, and a master’s in public policy from Pepperdine University, focusing on international relations and state and local policy.
“As we continue to mourn the passing of Supervisor Ramirez, I am grateful that the Governor has acted swiftly in making an appointment for District 5 Supervisor,” said Chair of the Board of Supervisors Matt LaVere. “Having worked with Ms. Lopez, I know she will be a great asset to our Board, and my colleagues and I look forward to working with her in this new capacity to serve our community and to keep Ventura County moving forward.”

District 5 includes central and southern areas of Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Oxnard Plain, Oxnard Shores, Mandalay Bay, Silver Strand, Hollywood Beach, Hollywood by the Sea, Channel Islands Harbor, California State University Channel Islands, Naval Base Ventura County, California Air National Guard, Oxnard Airport, Ormond Beach Wetlands, and Channel Islands National Park.
Before assuming duties as District 5 Supervisor, Lopez will be sworn in by County Clerk-Recorder Mark Lunn. A date for swearing-in is yet to be set.

Supervisora del Condado del Distrito 5
VENTURA – – El Gobernador Gavin Newsom anunció el 23 de septiembre el nombramiento de Vianey López como Supervisora del Condado del Distrito 5 para llenar la vacante creada por el inesperado fallecimiento de la Supervisora Carmen Ramírez el 12 de agosto de 2022. Lopez fungirá como Supervisora designada para el Distrito 5 del Condado hasta las próximas elecciones generales en noviembre de 2024.
Lopez quien ha sido residente de South Oxnard por mucho tiempo, fue elegida miembro del Concejo Municipal de Oxnard en noviembre de 2018 y reelegida en noviembre de 2020. Ella funge como Directora de Distrito de la Asambleísta Monique Limón en los condados de Ventura y Santa Bárbara. Antes de participar con la Asambleísta Limón, López trabajó para la ex Congresista Lois Capps. Durante seis años, López prestó sus servicios como Miembro de la Junta Directiva del Distrito Escolar de las escuelas primarias de Hueneme y prestó sus servicios en la Junta Administrativa de Future Leaders of America. Es la ex vicepresidenta del Consejo Político de Mujeres del Condado de Ventura (VCWPC) y es miembro activo de la Liga de Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos del Condado de Ventura (LULAC).

Lopez cuenta con una Licenciatura en Administración de Empresas de la Universidad Loyola Marymount y una Maestría en Políticas Públicas de la Universidad Pepperdine con una especialización en relaciones internacionales y política estatal y local.
“Mientras seguimos lamentando el fallecimiento de la Supervisora Ramírez, estoy agradecido de que el Gobernador haya actuado rápidamente en hacer el nombramiento de la Supervisora del Distrito 5”, dijo el Presidente de la Junta de Supervisores Matt LaVere. “Habiendo trabajado con la Sra. Lopez, sé que será una gran adición a nuestra Junta, y mis colegas y yo esperamos trabajar con ella en esta nueva capacidad para servir a nuestra comunidad y seguir adelante con el progreso del Condado de Ventura.”

Antes de asumir las funciones como Supervisora del Distrito 5, López prestará juramento ante el Secretario-Registrador del Condado Mark Lunn. Aún no se ha fijado una fecha para la ceremonia de juramento.
