Bilingual report — COVID-19 Poster Art Contest Winners to be Announced on March 24 at Family Art Night!

OXNARD — The Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) and El Concilio Family Services will exhibit artwork from the finalists and announce the winners of the COVID-19 Poster Art Contest at OPAC’s Family Art Night on Friday, March 24, 2023. Free and open to the public, the event takes place from 5 to 8 pm with a short program/award ceremony beginning at 6:30 pm.

A way to continue to educate youth, families and the community about COVID’s continued presence and ways we can all stay safe and healthy, the COVID-19 Poster Art Contest received over 300 submissions from across Ventura County!

The six winners will receive their prizes at the Family Art Night: 1st ($500), 2nd ($200) and 3rd place ($50 gift card) winners in two categories, Grades K-5 and Grades 6-12. The Children’s Workshop sponsored the cash prizes and raffle prizes, donated by local businesses, will be distributed to contest participants who attend the event.

Family Art Night is a monthly program organized by OPAC to provide quality, creative time for families with activities like painting and drawing. The March 24th event will be extra special with a performance by artist Juan D. the Entertainer, DJ sets, refreshments, and “Profiles of COVID,” a photography exhibition highlighting how the pandemic affected local residents

“We are blown away by the overwhelming response to the contest, but it’s no wonder. COVID impacted all of us deeply. We’re excited not only about this local impact, but for the wonderful partnerships we have built through the process. Similar contests were organized throughout the Central Coast and all of the submitted artwork, including our County’s, will be compiled into a digital mural and select submissions will also be made into trading cards and stickers! How cool is that?,” comments El Concilio Family Services’ Executive Director, Yvonne Gutierrez.
